The Vels Group’s journey began in 1992 when our founder and chairman, Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, established Vels College of Pharmacy in a modest rented space in Mylapore, Chennai, with just 36 students and 10 teachers. Over the past 32 years, Vels has evolved into a distinguished name, expanding its influence beyond education into sectors like entertainment, healthcare.
Founded in memory of Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh’s late father, Shri Ishari Velan, Vels Group was created with the mission of making quality education accessible to all. This commitment has driven the establishment of a new institution each year, resulting in a network of 34 campuses across Chennai, Hyderabad, Punjab,Haryana, Dubai, Singapore, and London, offering programs from Pre-KG to PhD, all supported by world-class facilities.
Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), recognized as a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2008, offers an extensive range of 100+ programs. Notably, VISTAS was the first private institution in India to provide Maritime and Nautical Science courses. Our Kindle Kids International curriculum, introduced in 2019, is now embraced in schools throughout India and Singapore, emphasizing a holistic approach to education.
With the same dedication that fueled our educational initiatives, we ventured into entertainment with the establishment of Vels Film International in 2019. Headed by Dr. Ishari.K. Ganesh, Vels Film International has successfully produced notable films such as Komali, LKG, and Bogan, Mookuthi Amman etc with plans for more impactful projects in the future.
At the core of Vels Group’s philosophy is a commitment to uplift the underprivileged and contribute positively to society. We regularly support charities, provide annual scholarships, and offer fee concessions to deserving students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Ishari K Ganesh contributed essential food supplies to struggling actors, reflecting our dedication to social welfare.
Our philanthropic efforts extend to healthcare through the establishment of Sri Isari Velan Mission Hospital in Thalambur, which offers quality medical care, treatment, and food at no cost for the people of the neighboring villages. Equipped with 100 beds, the hospital focuses on holistic care, emotional support, and counseling, aiming to enhance the quality of life for patients and their families.
